Disinfectant treatment goes beyond cleaning – it's about killing the bacteria that live in artificial turf fibers and infill, not just rinsing away what's visible. Urine, saliva, and general pet contact leave behind bacteria that survive on synthetic surfaces far longer than most people expect, and a hose-down alone does very little to actually eliminate it. This is the step that makes a yard genuinely sanitary, not just visually clean.
The signs that point to needing this service aren't always obvious to the eye – a lingering musty smell even after rinsing, a yard used daily by multiple pets, or simply not having had the turf disinfected in several months are all reasons on their own. If anyone in the household has had a skin irritation after yard time, or if you're dealing with a puppy still building immunity, disinfecting on a regular schedule matters even more.
We apply a pet-safe, hospital-grade disinfectant formulated specifically for synthetic turf, not a generic household cleaner that can damage fibers or leave harmful residue behind. The turf gets a thorough pre-rinse first to clear surface debris so the disinfectant can actually reach the fibers and infill rather than sitting on top of dirt. We apply it evenly across the full area, giving it proper dwell time to actually kill bacteria rather than just wiping it on and rinsing immediately, then follow with a final rinse to clear any residue before pets are let back onto the surface.
Cost depends on square footage and how often the turf is treated – yards on a recurring schedule need less intensive treatment each visit than a yard being disinfected for the first time in a while. Multiple pets or high-traffic dog runs in West Lebanon, PA typically call for a stronger initial treatment to get bacteria levels down before switching to routine maintenance visits.
