Weeds on artificial turf almost always start at the edges, seams, and drainage perforations – anywhere soil is close enough to the surface for a seed to take root and push through. Once a weed gets established under the turf, its roots can lift the backing, separate seams, and create uneven, bumpy patches that only get worse the longer they're left alone. This isn't a cosmetic issue only – it's a structural one for the turf itself.
You'll see it starting as small green shoots poking up along the perimeter of the yard, at seams between turf panels, or around any fixtures like sprinkler heads or fence posts that interrupt the base. Left unaddressed, those shoots turn into visible clumps that lift the surrounding turf and create tripping hazards or uneven ground pets can catch a paw on. Weeds near seams are the most urgent, since that's where root growth does the most damage to the actual installation.
We start by identifying every point of growth across the yard, paying particular attention to edges, seams, and any spot where the base material might be thinner or disturbed. Removal is done by hand at the root wherever possible, since cutting weeds at the surface just means they grow back within weeks. For persistent growth, we apply a pet-safe weed treatment specifically formulated not to harm turf backing or pose any risk to animals using the yard immediately after. We check seams carefully during this process, since weed damage is often the first sign a seam needs repair.
Pricing is based on how widespread the growth is and how long it's been established – a few shoots along an edge is a quick job, while a yard in West Lebanon, PA with root systems already lifting seams takes more time and sometimes seam repair alongside the weed removal itself.
Weeds only get harder to remove the longer they're left. Call (928) 427-2477 to get ahead of it before your turf's edges and seams take real damage.
