Debris removal is the groundwork every other turf service depends on – clearing leaves, twigs, dropped food, dirt tracked in from the yard, and general organic buildup that settles into the fibers and infill over time. It sounds simple, but debris left sitting on artificial turf breaks down, feeds bacteria, and clogs the drainage holes in the backing, which is exactly what causes turf to smell and hold moisture longer than it should.
Signs you need it are usually visible before you even get close – leaves and organic matter caught in the blades, small twigs or acorns working their way down toward the backing, dirt or mulch tracked over from garden beds, and a general dull, dirty look even after a light rinse. If your dog's water bowl area or feeding spot has food debris ground into the turf, that's another spot debris removal targets specifically, since leftover food attracts pests fast.
We start with a leaf blower or vacuum pass to lift the large, loose material off the surface before it works deeper into the pile. Then we go in by hand or with a rake for anything caught at the base of the fibers or sitting against the backing – this is where blowers alone miss things, especially in corners and along fence lines where debris collects. For solid pet waste, we do a full sweep of the yard first, since leftover waste is the number one thing that undermines every other cleaning step that follows. We finish with a check of the drainage perforations to make sure nothing's blocking water flow through the backing.
Pricing is based on yard size and how much debris has accumulated – a yard that gets regular upkeep is a quicker job than one that's gone months without attention, especially in West Lebanon, PA where seasonal leaf drop or windy conditions can pile debris up fast. Properties with more trees, larger dogs, or multiple pets typically need more thorough passes.
